14 Neighborhoods Closed to Foreign Residence in 2022 in Istanbul

According to a statement issued by the Turkish Immigration Department of the Ministry of Interior’s official website, the number of neighborhoods where it is not permitted to register a residential address has increased from 781 to 1169 as of July 1.
The decision includes some specific neighborhoods closed to foreign residence
The Immigration Department stated that the decision was made due to an increase in the population density of foreigners in the specified areas, reaching 20%.
According to this decision, neither those under temporary or international protection nor residence permit holders will be entitled to register their residential address in these locations, except for family reunification and the registration of newborn children, which can be recorded based on the parent’s residence address.
As a result, while renting or purchasing a home, it is not possible to establish a residence address in the regions designated by the Turkish Immigration Service. By making this choice, the foreign presence in the nation will become more organized and more prevalent in many locations where there are still very few foreigners living there.
This decision will not affect people who have previously registered their residential address, but it will affect people who will register their residential address for the first time or who have recently moved to the areas listed below.
The new legislation will not affect the real estate market so investors can proceed with their investments without concern. Certainly, any foreign investor can rent out his property to a Turk person or family for a monthly income, even if it is located within the zones mentioned in the updated legislation, or resell it and profit from the high price.
